The great Christmas tree burning

Friday marked an unusual turning point in my life. Never before have I seen something burn so fast before. Thanks to the crew at gravitate, I can now join the unique crowd of people who’ve burned a Christmas tree.

All in all, we burned about six Christmas trees, a set of bunk beds, some old brush, and a dead tree from our hosts backyard. The fire lated from six until at least 12, but probably went much longer after Jay and I left.

We made sausages, smores, hotdogs, and more cooking them over the flames. Above you can see Jay risking half his arm for the sake of the sausages.

There was some fantastic conversation there, and the only complaint people seemed to have was that the fire was very warm on the face!

I’m going to have to get a Christmas tree next year, just so I can burn it now…. Sounds kind of sacrareligious, doesn’t it? Oh, but it is ohhhhh so fun!

Disc golf today

image

So the brother and I got some disc golf in today. The course is on the side of a mountain that looks just like the forest at the end of the first LOTR movie.

Neither of us could throw in a straight line. Now I’m going to have nightmares about discs rolling down hills.

A night out on Blacksburg

Had a chance to finally meet Jays infamous Bible study. He has a pretty sold group of friends down here in Blacksburg.

Got to meet the lone ranger, Reese. A national guard soldier with three tours of duty under his belt. He also has an amazing hat.

Also met Amy, definitely the life of the party, a firecracker to be sure.

Cindy, the cynic writer whose forgotten more about fabric and textiles than I’ll ever learn.

Also several others who were very interesting, including a recently married couple (3 weeks) who sounds very interesting.

We had a great Bible study centering around Romans 5. The text covered 8 blessings that we have been afforded. Peace, grace, Holy Spirit, love, character, and three others that now slip my mind. It was an intense conversation which we learned quite a bit about each other and the Lord.

After that we broke loose and headed for a local hangout, Macado’s. A local bar. Epic burger occurred. There was much win.

All in all, a successful trip down to Blacksburg. Now to test my ability to work remotely tomorrow.
